Port Townsend Summer 2025

Port Townsend is a place you have to visit more than once.

My first time there was a road trip to visit Fort Warden in 2018 for a fantasy shoot with my friend Justin. We only explored battery McKenzie that time but I had the opportunity to go back in July and really explore photograph it this summer when I took a short wedding gig at Fort Townsend State Park; the day after a nearly 11-hour wedding in centralia. I knew the bride and groom and a bunch of the guests, and they know how to throw an event. Their wedding ended with live bands consisting of many of their guests as well as fire spinning; you'll have to subscribe to read about Abe & Sethra's wedding.

My best friend happened to have access to her grandfather's cabin that bordered a cemetery. Sounds spooky huh? I thought it was until I visited and one of the first things we did was explore the cemetery after the wedding after the sun already started setting. The colors in the sky were beautiful. Like cotton candy as we explored the 100-year-old grave sites and were greeted by a doe and her baby running past us. The cabin had handmade sliding doors enclosing the back porch where we lit a fire in the outdoor fireplace, edited photos and listened to this funny show called SMOSH. The first night there we stayed up all night doing exactly that while watching the sun rise.

The next day we went to fort warden where we explored Battery Kinzie and Point Wilson light house.

The light house was surrounded by a stunning beach where we saw otters coming in to feed their pup who happened to be not too far from us. Birds looked frozen in the air as they fought against the extreme wind. Many seemed to have given up and were just floating backwards getting pushed by the wind as they faced the sun. We mistook the sound for a bird's nest.
